LANDING CRAFT, INFANTRY (LARGE)

Operational use: As an oceangoing infantry carrier for direct unloading on the beach. Although troop accommodations are provided, this space limits the practical operational time to 48 hours.

Capacity: 6 officers and 182 troops, or 75 tons cargo (oceangoing).

Dimensions: Length, 160'0'' o. a.  Beam, 23'3''.

Displacement: Loaded, 387 tons. - Landing, 238 tons. - Light, 194 tons.
Tons per inch immersion, 7.0 (loaded), 6.5 (landing).

Armament: Four 20 mm. (British mount two .303 Lewis).

Armor: 1 7/8'' plastic splinter protection to guns, conning tower, and pilot-house sides.

Endurance: 8,700 miles @ 12 kts. @ 45'' pitch (350 tons displ.).

Speed: 15.5 kts. (max) @ 650 rpm and 45'' pitch, 14.5 kts. (cont.) @ 585 rpm and 45'' pitch.

Propulsion: 8 GM diesels (4 per shaft) with max. BHP 1600; twin variable pitch screws.

Fuel: 120 tons fuel oil, 240 gals, lubricating oil, 36 tons F. W.

Crew: 3 officers, 21 men.
