LANDING CRAFT, GUN (LARGE) (MARK 3)

Operational use: To provide direct fire against beach positions and surface attack for first-echelon landing waves. Craft is beached to become a stationary gun platform.

Description: British conversion from LCT (3) hulls. Ships have been made watertight; had false deck built over hold. Drawing illustrates rearrangement for magazine space and additional accomodations.

Endurance: 2,700 miles @ 10½ kts.  Speed, 10½ kts. (max.).

Displacement: 500 tons (loaded).  Draft, 3'6'' for'd, 6'0'' aft.

Armament: Two 4''.7 QF Naval guns; two 20-mm, or two 2-pdr. pompoms.

Armor: 25-lb. plating to side of gun deck, blast screens, sides of magazines.

Crew: 2 officers, 13 men. gun crew, 1 officer, 2 NCO's, 20 enlisted marines, with full living accomodations.

Propulsion: 2 Paxman 500 hp. Diesels, twin screws.

Fuel: 24 tons Diesel fuel.
