LANDING CRAFT, MECHANIZED (MARK 3)

Operational use: Designed to land one medium (30 tons) tank or motor vehicles directly on beach.

Description: Two designs are in use, the HIGGINS type constituting the majority. Recent changes include addition of machine guns and magnesyn compass, higher bulwark, and slight rearrangement aft.

Capacity: One 30-ton tank or 60,000 lb. of cargo, or 60 troops. BUREAU type (few in number) carries 120,000 lb. of cargo.

Endurance: 850 miles @ 6¼ kts.;  Speed, 8 kts. (loaded); 11 kts. (normal load).
500 miles @ 7¼ kts.;
140 miles @ full speed.

Dimensions: Length, 50' 0'' o. a.  Beam, 14' 1''.

Displacement: Light, 52,000 lb.  Draft, 3' 0'' for'd, 4' 0'' aft. - Loaded, 52 tons.

Armament: Two .50-cal. M.G.

Armor 1/4'' HTS sides to control station. British are fitting bullet-proof mattresses.

Crew: 4.

Propulsion: Two 110-225 hp. Diesels of different designs; twin screws.
