"The S.N.A.F.U. SPECIAL" : Veteran of world war II
and from all the main airborne operations in ETO (Neptune - Dragoon - Market -
Repulse - Varsity), C-47 #43-15073 was left behind on Rajlovac airfield, near
Sarajevo, in Bosnia since 1994 when she was grounded by machine gun fire.
On the beginning of 2007, the members of the Merville Battery Association learn
her existence and begin to research on her history. Merville Dakota Association
is created for the priority purpose: 'Saving C-47 #43-15073'.
From
the launching of the operation on 15 November 2007 to the ceremony marking her
return in Normandy on 7 June 2008.
